Course title: MA Music Therapy
Duration: Three years part-time
Undergraduate degree desirable.
Entry is by audition where communicative musical skills are assessed. Disabled students are welcomed.
Course Philosophy and Main Theoretical Approaches:
Humanistic philosophy underpins the course. The curriculum is delivered based on a lifespan model (i.e. starting with early infant development and moving through to end of life work by the end of the training). Various theoretical approaches are included with an emphasis on psychodynamic thinking and a music-centred approach.
3 practice placements each running 1 day/week for 24 weeks, clinical supervision, theory and practice of music therapy, child development, microanalysis of clinical music, qualitative and quantitative research methods and research dissertation, advanced practice including community models of engagement, introduction to other arts therapies and counselling practices.
Qualification Awarded: Master of Arts in Music Therapy: this is the entry level for HCPC registration
